In order for students to obtain a signed endorsement to take the FAA Written Exam, students must attend all lessons and take a final exam. The final exam is a timed test which consists of 60 questions that must be passed with an 80% over 2.5 hours.
Ground school is the classroom portion of your flight training. While flight lessons teach you the physical skills to control the airplane, ground school covers the essential aeronautical knowledge you need to fly safely. Topics include weather, navigation, regulations, aircraft systems, and aerodynamics.
Not necessarily. Many students prefer to complete their ground school and pass the written exam before stepping into an airplane to focus entirely on flying later. However, taking them concurrently can help reinforce concepts (e.g., learning about "stalls" in class and then practicing them in the air).
There is no minimum age to take ground school lessons. However, you must be at least 15 years old to take the FAA Private Pilot Knowledge Test (the written exam).
The primary goal is to prepare you to pass the FAA Private Pilot Knowledge Test (often called the "written"). You need a score of 70% or higher to pass.
You cannot simply walk into a testing center. You must receive an endorsement from an instructor. Once you complete this course and pass our final practice exams with a qualifying score, we will issue you this endorsement, which authorizes you to sit for the official FAA exam.
This depends on your pace. Most students complete the material in 4–6 weeks if they study consistently a few times a week. If you are doing an accelerated program, it can be done in as little as two weeks.
No. You do not need a medical certificate to attend ground school or take the written exam. You will need a medical certificate (or BasicMed) before you are allowed to fly an airplane solo. We recommend scheduling your medical exam soon so there are no delays in your flight training later.
